  1. The Road Less Travelled

    January 29, 2012 by Mike

I’m still writing and rewriting the first chapter of my book. It has been vastly more difficult than I imagined – I think because of the permanency of it. It’s not just a blog post that can be fixed and rewritten (or deleted) and, because of this, every keystroke on my laptop is fraught with nervousness. That said, chapter one is almost complete.  It describes my arrival in Australia almost four years ago, and I hope it will be interesting (to be honest, I have become desensitised to what may or may not be interesting at this point – there are only so many edits one can make!).

  2. Down Under

    Part 1

I’ve not written a blog post for over two months, and it’s not for want of subject matter. You see, it has been a thoroughly eventful time for me, in some ways thrilling, in others deeply sad, but in all ways it has been eventful and I believe the last few weeks will have a profound effect on the rest of my life.

  3. Upper Lip Appendages, Kung Fu and Motoring.

    November 4, 2011 by Mike

Ah, the second instalment in the annals (chortle) of my life; these truly are exciting times. Today is the 4th day of grow-a-moustache month, which I participated in for the first time last year. I felt like a twit then, and I’m sure I’ll feel like one come a week or two.

It must be said though, there are some people who can wear a moustache and not look entirely ridiculous. These people are called Tom Selleck. He’s the extent of them. When I grow an “upper lip appendage” I end up looking like I shouldn’t be allowed near schools or public swimming pools, and quite rightly so, because for years a moustache has been the tell-tale sign of the degenerate (think of five famous people with moustaches and I guarantee at least a couple of them will be evil incarnate. Others may just be lovably eccentric of course, and one might just be regular, if his name is Tom Selleck).

So far, my “Mo” is still in its earliest stages of development, but I know soon when clothes shopping with my other half, I’ll no longer be able to wait for her outside the ladies’ changing rooms without receiving strange looks from passers-by and a warning from security. (more…)

  4. There Will Be Chihuahuas…

    October 29, 2011 by Mike

My name is Mike and writing droll things is a large part of my job. Considering this, it seemed a logical progression to start writing droll things in my spare time, honing and developing my own particular brand of cynicism. Hilarity may or may not ensue.

Like everyone on the internet, I have some pretty strong opinions, largely backed up with very little actual knowledge. You will find a lot of these opinions here and the result will certainly be long and extremely original comment strings disagreeing with what I’m saying which will, inevitably, climax with someone accusing someone else of being like Hitler. Good times for all I’m sure.
